The Porthcawl 10k, organised by Run 4 Wales as part of its 10k series alongside Newport, Barry, and Cardiff, returns this Sunday, July 5, 2026. The race will showcase the town's scenic seaside spots including Rest Bay, Trecco Bay, Coney Bay, the town centre, Grand Pavilion, and Porthcawl Lighthouse. Alongside the main race, the event features live entertainment, a Fun Run, and a Toddler Dash.
Race Timings and Schedule
The main race starts at 10am on the Harbourside (Eastern Promenade). Participants are advised to arrive early, with pens opening at 9.45am. The Junior Race and Toddler Dash begin at 12.15pm, followed by two Future Challenger races at 12.30pm, and the Fun Run at 1pm. The event is expected to conclude by 2pm, with roads reopening throughout the day.
Road Closures for the Event
Run 4 Wales, in coordination with Bridgend County Borough, has implemented road closures to ensure participant safety. The route is designed to minimise disruption to residents and businesses, and emergency services access will not be affected. The following roads will be closed:
- Eastern Promenade: from Saturday, July 4 at 5am to Sunday, July 5 at 4pm.
- Road between Eastern Promenade and New Road: 9.45am to 11.15am.
- New Road: 9.45am to 10.40am.
- Beach Road: 9.45am to 10.50am.
- Road alongside Trecco Bay Holiday Park: 9.45am to 10.55am.
- Around Hi-Tide café and Event Car Park A: 9.45am to 11.10am.
- Esplanade: 5am to 2pm.
- John Street: 9.45am to 11.20am.
- Lias Road: managed access from 9.45am to 10.10am.
- South Road: 9.45am to 11.40am.
- Locks Lane: 9.45am to 11.55am.
- West Drive: 9.45am to 12.05pm.

Travel and Parking Advice
Attendees are encouraged to use public transport or sustainable travel like cycling due to expected heavy traffic. For drivers on the M4, exit at junction 37 for Porthcawl via the A4229, or junction 35 at Pencoed taking the A473 towards Bridgend. Pre-booking parking is recommended as capacity is limited. Available car parks include Sandy Bay (Event Car Park A, CF36 5BW), Salt Lake (Event Car Park B, CF36 5TS), and Porthcawl Comprehensive School (Event Car Park C, CF36 3ES).
