A person has been hospitalized following a crane collapse at the Port of Tyne in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, prompting a large emergency response. The incident occurred at around 1:02 pm on 19 July, involving a dockside crane.
Emergency Services Respond
Crews from the North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed: "We were called to an incident in which a person was injured at the Port of Tyne, South Shields, at 1.02pm on 19 July. We dispatched three double crewed ambulances, two clinical team leaders, a duty officer, three vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and were supported by Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
Ongoing Scene Support
The spokesperson added that one HART vehicle remains at the scene on standby to support the fire service. The nature of the injuries and the condition of the patient have not been disclosed. Witnesses described the scene as "horrific."
