A significant police scene is in place in north Manchester tonight (Friday, July 3) after a police vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision. The incident occurred at the junction of Queens Road and Rochdale Road in Harpurhey, where a large cordon has been established.
Collision Details and Emergency Response
Photos from the scene show severe damage to a blue Kia Picanto and a police van. The police van appears to have collided with central railings, with its front bumper hanging off. Emergency vehicles from the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were in attendance.
GMFRS confirmed they were called at 8:50pm. A spokesperson said, “At around 8:50pm this evening (Friday, 3rd July), firefighters were called to the scene of a collision between two vehicles on Queens Road in Manchester. One fire engine from Manchester Central fire station, along with the technical rescue unit from Leigh fire station quickly arrived at the scene. All seven occupants of the vehicles had self-rescued before the arrival of the fire service and were given care at the roadside by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service. Crews handed the scene over to Greater Manchester Police before leaving around half an hour later.”
Investigation Underway
Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information regarding the circumstances of the crash. The cordon remains in place as investigations continue.
