The temporary traffic lights on the A94 north of Burrelton are expected to be removed by August 13, as repairs to the damaged bridge near completion.
MP Welcomes Completion Date
Angus and Perthshire Glens MP Dave Doogan has welcomed news from Perth & Kinross Council that works are now expected to be completed by August 13, allowing the contraflow traffic management system to be removed.
Doogan contacted the council after being approached by a number of constituents concerned about the disruption caused by the temporary traffic lights, which have been in place since January.
Background to the Contraflow
The lights were introduced in January of this year following a vehicle collision that damaged the bridge parapet. The contraflow system allowed for the road to reopen safely while repair plans were prepared.
Doogan said that the council confirmed that a contractor was appointed in June and that work on the A94 site is currently scheduled for completion by August 13, with the contraflow due to be removed once it is safe to fully reopen the road.

Mr Doogan said: “I’m pleased to have received clarification from Perth & Kinross Council following the concerns raised with me by local constituents.
“I know this prolonged contraflow has been a source of real frustration for residents, commuters and local businesses alike. After months of uncertainty, we now finally have a clear date for when this disruption will come to an end.
“While it is disappointing that these temporary arrangements have had to remain in place for more than half a year, I welcome the fact that the repairs are now nearing completion and that the contraflow is expected to be removed by August 13.
“I appreciate that safety must come first, particularly when bridge repairs are concerned, but it is important that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum. I know residents and commuters will be looking forward to seeing the A94 fully reopened and traffic returning to normal.”
