A person has tragically died on the railway tracks between Manchester and Liverpool, causing major disruption to train services.
Emergency services were called to Broad Green station at around 9.30am on Monday, August 10, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Services disrupted
The line between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street was blocked, with Northern services on the route cancelled, delayed, or revised. TransPennine Express services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street were also unable to run.
The line has since been reopened, but major disruption is expected to last until at least 12.30pm.
Incident not suspicious
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Broad Green station at around 9.30am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene."
The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
