Person dies on tracks at Broad Green station

A person has died following an incident at Broad Green station this morning, Monday, August 10. The death has led to train cancellations and delays on routes through Wavertree Technology Park and Huyton.

Incident details

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the station around 9.30am after reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers and paramedics attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesperson said the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Service disruption

Emergency services dealt with the incident, causing disruption to train services running through the affected stations. Some services faced cancellations and delays.

According to travel management system INRIX, Northern services were at a stand between Newton-le-Willows and Liverpool Lime Street, and between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street. Transpennine Express services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street were also stopped.

Northern later confirmed on its website: "Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Wavertree Technology Park and Huyton all lines are now open."
