Emergency services were called to rail tracks between Newport and Cwmbran just before 11.30am on Friday, August 7, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Incident Details
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to the line near Newport at 11.23am today (7 August) to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Impact on Services
The incident led to delays in both directions between Newport and Hereford. Transport for Wales said services had been delayed or cancelled due to "a person being hit by a train".
