A person has died after being hit by a train near Freshfield railway station. Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.49am on Saturday, August 22, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Emergency response and confirmation
British Transport Police confirmed paramedics also attended, but despite the best efforts of all involved, the person died at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner, the police force said.
Merseyrail reported at the time that a person was believed to have been hit by the train travelling towards Southport on Saturday morning, but no details were confirmed.
