A United Airlines plane struck the tail of another United aircraft while taxiing at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Friday, according to officials. The incident involved flight 2652, arriving from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with 113 passengers on board.
No injuries were reported, and passengers were able to disembark normally after a brief delay, United said in a statement. The second aircraft, which was stationary at the time, had its horizontal stabilizer hit by the arriving plane's wing.
Passenger Bill Marcus told CBS News Chicago he did not initially notice the collision. “I was shocked that I didn’t feel something more, although when they separated the planes there was some shuddering,” he said, adding that the delay to reach the gate lasted about 40 minutes.
The incident adds to recent concerns over aviation safety, following several high-profile events. In January, a US Army helicopter collided with an airliner near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, resulting in the deadliest US plane crash in decades. Earlier in October, two Delta Air Lines regional jets collided on taxiways at New York's LaGuardia Airport, injuring a flight attendant.
