A travel and food content creator has shared his experience taking an overnight sleeper train from London to Cornwall, but the price has left many people shocked.
The Journey and the Cost
George Kimm, a UK-based travel and food content creator, documented his trip on the Great Western Railway (GWR) Night Riviera service from London Paddington to Penzance. The journey takes just over eight hours. He booked a solo cabin, which included a single bed, a table doubling as a sink, a wardrobe, and storage space. GWR also provided amenities such as soap.
George revealed that his ticket cost £119, with an additional £149 for the cabin, totaling £268. He described it as a "very cosy" experience and said he enjoyed the sounds and motion of the train lulling him to sleep. Breakfast, which included a cup of tea and a sausage bap, was included in the fare.
Reactions from Viewers
George's Instagram reel drew a range of responses. One commenter noted, "£75 return to Paris, just saying," to which George replied, "Totally get it. This was a bucket list trip." Another called the price "insane," while a third asked, "Omg... how much?" Some even branded the cost "criminal."
Despite the price, some viewers saw the value. One commented, "This looks like a great experience but it's very costly for a return journey. I guess the benefit is both journeys are during the night so you aren't losing out on any holiday time." Another added, "Would love to do this!! Honestly would see the cost as part of the holiday, so special."
Alternative Options
For those considering the Night Riviera service, an airline-style seat is available at no additional cost when booking a ticket, with private cabin prices starting from £49 per person.
