NSW crushes first illegal ebikes seized under new laws

The first illegal ebikes seized under new laws in New South Wales have been crushed into scrap metal.

Crushing operation in western Sydney

The NSW government pulverized 23 ebikes at a wrecking yard in western Sydney on Thursday, turning the vehicles into scrap metal.

The move marks the first time illegally modified electric bicycles have been destroyed under the state's recent legislation.

Additional bikes under assessment

NSW police are assessing applications for the return of an additional 13 bikes seized during a joint operation with Transport for NSW in the northern beaches in September.
