Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade has made it clear he is not ready to give up on his career at St. James' Park. The German international ended the season with 11 goals, after losing his starting spot in attack mid-season and being deployed in a deeper midfield role, different from his position with the national team.
Woltemade commits to Newcastle future
Woltemade has vowed to improve in his second season after being assured his future lies with the Magpies, despite transfer links to Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The former Stuttgart star told Stern magazine: "I moved to the Premier League at 23, the best league in the world. I've learned a lot this season. I've improved athletically, I can keep up with the tremendous pace and hold my own in challenges. Overall, it's been a step forward. That's why I have no doubts about Newcastle. I'll make my mark there."
Woltemade enjoyed a strong first half of the season, scoring nine goals before Christmas before losing his place. Reflecting on his positional shift, he said: "I'm expected to score or provide an assist in every game. But if I'm not playing in attack, it's significantly more difficult for me to get into dangerous scoring positions." However, he acknowledged he could not be fully satisfied with his overall contributions from a season that started so promisingly. "Of course, I'm not satisfied with how things have gone in sporting terms over the past few months – especially because my start in Newcastle was so strong. That raised expectations, including for myself," he admitted.
Eddie Howe praises Woltemade's progress
Head coach Eddie Howe commented on Woltemade's improvement towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign, expressing pleasure and hinting at a future partnership with Yoane Wissa. Howe said in May: "I think again he's benefiting from the bigger sessions with 20 players that we've missed throughout the season and now we're beginning to work with him on the things we feel like we needed to earlier in the season but didn't have the opportunity to. I thought his pass for Yoane was sublime against Arsenal. It was great to see those two link together and looked like it could be a potential partnership for us."
