Learner drivers have been advised to take a mock driving test before their actual exam, according to the latest guidance from GOV.UK's Ready to Pass? initiative. The advice highlights that mock tests help assess readiness and identify areas for improvement.
The guidance explains that watching driving test videos on platforms like YouTube or TikTok is not sufficient, as they provide no feedback on individual performance under test conditions. A mock test with an instructor offers personalised feedback and simulates the real exam environment.
Learners are encouraged to schedule a mock test with their regular instructor, or consider taking one with a different instructor to build confidence with unfamiliar examiners. Research by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) indicates that over half of driving instructors offer mock tests to learners they do not normally teach.
The GOV.UK website also reminds learners that they can postpone their driving test for free if they are not ready, as long as they do so at least 10 full working days before the scheduled date. This ensures they do not waste time or money on an unprepared attempt.
