A 10-year-old boy who died in a coach crash in Somerset last week suffered fatal head injuries, the opening of his inquest has revealed. Oliver Price was a passenger on a school trip to Exmoor Zoo when the vehicle left the A396 at Cutcombe Hill near Minehead on 17 July.
The coach, carrying 60 to 70 pupils and staff from Minehead Middle School, slid down a 20ft slope and overturned. An off-duty firefighter who was driving behind the coach stopped to help free passengers. Oliver was found seated with his seatbelt on.
At a brief hearing at Somerset Coroner’s Court, assistant coroner Vanessa McKinlay confirmed the provisional cause of death as head injury, pending laboratory results. The inquest has been adjourned until 14 January 2026.
Several children were discharged from hospital over the weekend, but two children and three adults remain in hospital. The coach has been recovered for detailed examination. Online fundraisers for those affected have raised more than £25,000.
