Metrolink severe delays on Bury and Rochdale lines as fireworks crowds travel
Metrolink severe delays on Bury and Rochdale lines

Metrolink services on the Bury and Rochdale lines are experiencing severe delays this evening as thousands head out to public firework displays. Bee Network said on an alert on its website that 'due to a points issue at Victoria, we currently have severe delays on the Bury and Rochdale lines'. Later, Bee Network tweeted that the issue had been 'resolved'.

Bus alternatives and ticket acceptance

Metrolink tickets are still being accepted on a range of bus alternatives. The delays come as large numbers of people travel to public firework displays organised by Manchester City Council at Wythenshawe Park, Heaton Park and Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield this evening.

Many will travel to the events on public transport, particularly the Heaton Park display, which is on the Bury line.

Saturday events and family entertainment

On Saturday November 7, there are two fireworks displays at three of Manchester's biggest parks. The events will start from 3pm with storytelling experiences from Z Arts, using characters, voices, movement and imagination to bring stories to life. There is also a chance to get creative with hands-on crafting inspired by the story. Storytimes are due to take place at 3pm - 3.45pm and 4.30pm.

This will be followed at 5pm by a reduced-noise, low-impact fireworks display designed to be shorter and more accessible for families with young children and people who may prefer a less intense fireworks experience. Fire performers will add to the celebrations with a display of flames, fiery choreography and skills.

Lantern Parade and main display

The evening will include family entertainment, funfairs and a food and drink village, while Walk the Plank will coordinate a Lantern Parade ahead of the main fireworks display. The Lantern Parade begins at 7pm prior to the main firework display set to music starting at 8pm.
