Manchester Piccadilly disruption: Fault on train blocks lines

Passengers travelling to and from Manchester Piccadilly are facing disruption this morning (Monday, October 5) after a fault on a train blocked several lines. Some services are being cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes, or diverted.

Lines blocked and services affected

The fault is affecting lines between Piccadilly and Reddish North, Guide Bridge and Stalybridge. National Rail said the issue is being caused by a fault on a train, and disruption is expected until at least 8am.

Some Northern and TransPennine Express services are affected. National Rail advised passengers to check before travelling, as trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes, or diverted.

Rail operators respond

TransPennine Express said: "Please continue your journey as planned but be aware that disruption to your journey today is possible."

Network Rail, who manage Manchester Piccadilly station, said in a post on X: "Please check before you travel, while we work on getting the train on the move." Network Rail staff are working to move the faulty train.
