Manchester Airport is preparing for its busiest summer on record, with over 120,000 passengers expected to pass through each day. From July 17 until September 1, the airport anticipates welcoming 5.7 million travellers, many of whom are families taking advantage of the school holidays.
Hand Luggage Rules and Security Seizures
Passengers are reminded to pack hand luggage correctly to comply with Civil Aviation Authority rules. Recently, the airport released images of nearly 100 items confiscated in a single morning, including gun-shaped toys, yoghurts, and 12 pairs of scissors. Liquids must be in containers of 100ml or less, sharp objects or blades longer than 6cm are prohibited, and items designed to look like firearms are banned.
Metrolink Maintenance Affecting Travel
Those using public transport to reach the airport should be aware of extensive Metrolink maintenance until August 2. No trams are running through the city centre, and services on the Altrincham, Eccles, and Trafford Park lines are suspended. The East Didsbury and Airport lines terminate at Firswood. Bus replacements are in place, and trams operate between Exchange Square and Rochdale, Bury and Piccadilly, and Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne.
