Manchester Airport is expecting its busiest summer on record, with more than 120,000 passengers flying to and from the airport each day from July 17 to September 1. Schools have broken up across the UK, and families are jetting off on holiday.
New Terminal 2 features
Passengers flying from Manchester Airport this summer can enjoy new features in Terminal 2 as part of the airport's £1.5billion transformation programme, set to wrap up later this year. The Boutique Mall area includes luxury retailers like Coach, Reiss, Jo Malone and Tom Ford, and passengers can book to use The Executive lounge. For food and drink, the Great Northern Market offers pizza, Greek food and more, while Terminal 3's Sporting Chance bar has over 500 seats. Work is ongoing to expand Terminal 3 using space from the closed Terminal 1.
Travel guidance and liquid rules
The airport has issued guidance for smooth travel. Due to Metrolink maintenance, no trams run on the Altrincham, Eccles and Trafford Park lines until August 2, and the East Didsbury and Airport lines terminate at Firswood. Bus replacement services are in place. Trams operate between Exchange Square and Rochdale, Bury and Piccadilly, and Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne.
The 100ml liquid limit for hand luggage remains, but new CT security scanners mean passengers do not need to remove liquids or electronic devices. Parents should pack children's 'squishy' toys in hold luggage as they may be classified as liquids and confiscated.
