Manchester Airport is gearing up for its busiest summer on record, with more than 5.7 million passengers expected to travel through the hub between July 17 and September 1. That equates to over 120,000 passengers each day. As the summer holidays begin for most schools, thousands are heading abroad from the northern travel hub, which connects to over 200 destinations worldwide, including popular spots like Spain, France, and Orlando.
Travel Guidance and Public Transport Disruptions
The airport has issued guidance to help passengers navigate the busy period smoothly. Those using public transport are advised to allow extra time due to ongoing Metrolink maintenance work. Until August 2, no trams will operate on the Altrincham, Eccles, and Trafford Park lines, while the East Didsbury and Airport lines terminate at Firswood. Bus replacement services are in place. Trams will run between Exchange Square and Rochdale, between Bury and Piccadilly, and between Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne.
Liquids and Security Rules
Passengers must still comply with the 100ml limit for liquids in hand luggage. However, thanks to new CT security scanners, travellers do not need to remove liquids or electronic devices from their bags. The airport warns parents to be cautious with children’s ‘squishy’ toys, which can be classified as liquids and should be packed in hold luggage to avoid confiscation.
