Manchester Airport is experiencing its busiest summer on record, with over 120,000 passengers expected to pass through daily. From today until September 1, more than 5.7 million travelers will fly in and out of the northern hub. This Friday marks the start of school holidays, prompting thousands of families to jet off abroad.
Travel Advice and Public Transport Disruptions
Passengers are advised to plan journeys carefully, ensure they have all necessary documents, and allow extra time for airport procedures. Public transport in Greater Manchester is significantly affected by Metrolink repairs until August 2. No trams operate on the Altrincham, Eccles, and Trafford Park lines. The East Didsbury and Airport lines terminate at Firswood, with bus replacement services in place. Trams run between Exchange Square and Rochdale, Bury and Piccadilly, and Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne.
Liquid Rules and Security Reminders
Travelers must still comply with the 100ml liquid limit for hand luggage, though new CT scanners mean liquids and electronics do not need to be removed. The airport warns that children’s ‘squishy’ toys may be classified as liquids and should be packed in hold luggage to avoid confiscation.
