Leeds United are in negotiations with goalkeeper Karl Darlow, whose contract expires at the end of the month. The 35-year-old has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, who are searching for an experienced back-up goalkeeper.
Darlow's impressive form
Darlow performed superbly during the second half of last season, displacing summer signing Lucas Perri as first choice in January. He recorded five clean sheets in 22 Premier League appearances and produced a string of impressive saves, one of which earned a nomination for save of the season.
The Wales international has made 38 appearances in three years at Leeds. He has begun each campaign under Daniel Farke as second choice but ultimately finished the last two seasons as the number one.
Manchester United's goalkeeping situation
United have extended Tom Heaton's contract for another season and have Senne Lammens established as their No.1. However, the goalkeeping department is in flux, with Altay Bayindir on the transfer list and Andre Onana available for a permanent move after a loan spell at Trabzonspor.
United have also looked at Wolves' Sam Johnstone as a potential option. Darlow could leave Leeds as a free agent at the end of June.
Leeds determined to keep Darlow
Leeds are determined to retain Darlow, who played a key role in helping the Whites steer clear of relegation last season. Manager Daniel Farke hinted last month that he was eager to hold on to the goalkeeper.
Nevertheless, Leeds are expected to dip into the goalkeeper market again this summer, and Darlow could find himself earmarked for a back-up role once more. Farke suggested in January that he had a particular preference in mind for a goalkeeper signing.
United's summer plans
Michael Carrick's side finished third and secured a place in the Champions League next season. They are eager to reshape their squad, with a top-class midfielder to replace outgoing Casemiro as the priority. Atalanta's Ederson is poised to be the first signing of the summer window.
United have confirmed that Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey, and Malachi Sharpe will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts.
