A man has died after a car was driven the wrong way down the M6 motorway in Lancashire. Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway near Charnock Richard services at approximately 9:33pm on Sunday, October 26.
Police received reports of a car travelling in the wrong direction on the southbound carriageway. Minutes later, a collision occurred between a Vauxhall Astra and a Toyota Corolla near the services. The driver of the Astra, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota Corolla, both men in their 40s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries, where they remain. Police believe the Vauxhall Astra was travelling the wrong way at the time of the crash.
An investigation is underway, and the motorway remains closed for enquiries. Lancashire Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. They are also seeking footage from Blackpool Road in Preston at around 9:15pm, where the Astra may have been involved in a damage-only collision.
A police spokesperson said: 'Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who died.
