A person has been killed following a 'horrible incident' at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. The individual was reportedly trapped in a running aircraft engine, according to local reports.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was involved in the incident on the tarmac. It remains unclear whether the person was a passenger or an employee of the airport or airline.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport issued a statement saying: 'Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we care for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation.'
KLM Airlines also confirmed the fatality in a separate statement, noting that the flight involved was KL1341 bound for Billund, Denmark. A spokesperson said: 'A fatal incident took place at Schiphol today during which a person ended up in a running aircraft engine. Sadly, this person has died.'
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (Military Police) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. KLM added that it is providing care to passengers and employees who witnessed the event.
