A major emergency response unfolded on the A55 in Cheshire after a man was tragically struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred on the westbound carriageway near Northop, triggering an immediate closure of the vital transport route. North Wales Police confirmed they were called to the scene at approximately 7:15 PM following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Major Traffic Disruption

The road closure remained in effect for several hours as collision investigation officers conducted a thorough examination of the scene. Motorists faced significant delays and were advised to seek alternative routes during the overnight period.

A North Wales Police spokesperson stated: "We received a report of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian on the A55 westbound near Northop. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers."

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, to contact us," the police spokesperson added.

The A55, a key arterial route connecting North Wales with England, finally reopened in the early hours of Wednesday morning after police completed their initial investigation at the scene.
