A man has tragically died after being hit by a vehicle on the A40 in West London during the early hours of the morning, prompting a major police investigation.
The fatal collision occurred near the Hanger Lane gyratory system, one of London's busiest traffic intersections, shortly before 5:30 AM. Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite their efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the location.
Major Route Disruption
The incident caused significant disruption to morning commuters as police closed the eastbound carriageway between the A4006 and A406 for several hours to conduct forensic investigations. Traffic congestion built up across West London as drivers sought alternative routes.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed: "We were called at approximately 5:25 AM to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the A40 eastbound. Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service."
Appeal for Witnesses
Detectives from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. They're particularly keen to speak with any motorists who may have captured dashcam footage of the incident.
"The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries," the police statement continued. "No arrests have been made at this early stage."
