Train halted beside fields
Pictures and eyewitness accounts indicate that the incident took place on a railway line in the Burscough area. Photos depict a Northern train halted abruptly beside green fields, with parts of a damaged vehicle visible near where the train has come to a stop.
Multiple ambulances and a fire engine are present at the scene, along with several individuals in high-visibility uniforms. At this time, there is no confirmation regarding any potential injuries or casualties.
Rail lines blocked
On X, Northern stated: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident Wigan Wallgate - Southport all lines are blocked. Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling."
Northern added: "Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends."
