M66 Motorway Shut After Four-Vehicle Crash in Manchester

A serious four-vehicle collision on the M66 in Greater Manchester led to the motorway being closed overnight, causing significant delays. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 15, on the southbound carriageway between Junction 1 (Ramsbottom) and Junction 2 (Bury).

The crash was first reported shortly after 10.30pm. Traffic data company Inrix stated: 'All traffic being temporarily held due to accident on M66 Southbound between J1 A56 Walmersley Road (Ramsbottom) and J2 A58 Rochdale Road (Bury).'

National Highways confirmed that four vehicles were involved in the collision. Due to the layout of Junction 1, which lacks a suitable southbound exit slip, the closure was implemented at the A56 Edenfield junction to safely manage traffic.
