The M66 motorway in Greater Manchester was closed in both directions after a lorry jack-knifed, causing miles of queues. The incident occurred between junction 3 for the A56 and junction 4 for the A664.
The lorry came to rest by the side of the motorway following the crash. Emergency services attended the scene, and traffic was held while recovery work took place.
Drivers faced long delays as the closure led to congestion on surrounding routes. National Highways advised motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
The cause of the jack-knife is under investigation. No injuries have been reported. The motorway reopened later after the lorry was recovered.
