The M621 motorway near Leeds was closed in both directions on Friday morning after a serious collision left a woman with life-threatening injuries. West Yorkshire Police were called to the clockwise carriageway near junction one at Holbeck at around 4:50am following reports of a crash involving a car and a woman who was in the road.
Emergency services attended and found the woman suffering from very serious injuries. A full road closure remains in place on both sides of the carriageway, with diversions in operation. Police have warned that the closure is expected to last for some time while investigation work is carried out.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and follow diversion routes. National Highways has advised eastbound traffic to follow the 'Hollow Circle' symbol via the M62, A653, and A6110, while westbound traffic should follow the 'Solid Circle' symbol in reverse. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports that the M621 is closed from junction 1 at Beeston to M62 junction 27 at Gildersome.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via the police website, quoting log 181 of April 10.
