All traffic was stopped on the M62 eastbound between Junction 11 (Birchwood) and Junction 12 (M60/M602) on Wednesday, July 8, following a multi-car crash during rush hour. Police and traffic officers were called to the scene at around 5:30pm.

National Highways reported long delays of at least 30 minutes and two miles of congestion. Traffic cameras showed all vehicles temporarily held as recovery services were dispatched to remove the cars from the carriageway.
