Motorists are facing gridlock on the M62 this morning after a serious crash involving a single car. The westbound carriageway between junction 8 at Burtonwood and junction 7 at Rainhill has been closed since around 4:18 am, leaving the key route connecting Liverpool and Manchester shut.
Emergency Response Underway
Merseyside Police are leading the response to the incident, which saw a vehicle leave the carriageway. National Highways has confirmed that traffic officers are assisting with management at the scene. There is currently no estimated time for reopening the road, as investigations continue.

Traffic is already building in the area, with long queues forming. National Highways stated: "We do not have an estimated time for reopening the road, as @MerseyPolice remain on scene to continue their investigations." Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and allow extra travel time.
