All traffic was stopped on the M62 near Oldham this afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision that caused a large fuel spillage. The incident occurred on the eastbound carriageway near junction 22 for Denshaw, leading to significant delays for motorists.
National Highways confirmed that emergency services, including police and paramedics, attended the scene. Traffic was initially held, but later released and filtered into the third lane. However, multiple lanes remained closed due to the fuel spillage, causing congestion of approximately three miles and delays of up to 45 minutes.
An update from National Highways at 3.15pm stated: "Traffic released in lane 3 on the M62 eastbound within J22 (Denshaw) following the multi-vehicle collision. A large fuel spillage has been confirmed across lanes 1 and 2. Delays up to 45 minutes above normal journey times, approx. 3 miles of congestion."
