A man is fighting for his life after falling from a bridge over the M60 in Greater Manchester. Emergency services were called at around 8.30pm on Monday evening following reports of a man on the wrong side of a bridge between junctions 23 and 24 near Denton and Ashton-under-Lyne.
The man fell onto the motorway and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Greater Manchester Police confirmed he remains in a critical condition. The motorway was fully closed in both directions as police and paramedics responded, reopening at around 10.30pm.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: 'At around 8:32pm on Monday 15 June, we were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the wrong side of a bridge between Junctions 23 and 24 of the M60 in Tameside. Emergency services attended, however the man had fallen. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition. Enquiries are ongoing.'
Meanwhile, motorists are facing gridlock on the M62 this morning after a serious crash. The westbound carriageway between junctions 8 and 7 near Rainhill is closed after a single vehicle left the carriageway at around 4.18am. National Highways said emergency services are on the scene and there is no estimated time for reopening.
