Long tailbacks are building on the M6 this morning following a serious collision. Traffic is at a standstill on the northbound carriageway in Staffordshire between junction 14 (Stafford) and junction 15 (Stoke).
Congestion currently stretches back seven miles, with drivers facing delays of up to 60 minutes. The motorway has been closed between junctions 14 and 15 as police and fire services attend the scene.
National Highways reports that traffic is also being held between junctions 13 and 14 due to a multi-vehicle collision and a broken-down HGV. Specialist contractors have been tasked to treat a large fuel spillage and inspect a damaged near-side barrier.
Drivers are advised to use alternative routes, such as the M1 and A50, if travelling from further afield. Staffordshire Police are leading the response, with the collision investigation team en route.
