Traffic is moving at a snail's pace on the M6 after multiple obstructions were reported. All traffic was held at a standstill due to one incident near Junction 30 (M61) earlier today, July 19.
79-minute delays reported by AA Roadwatch
The AA Roadwatch reported "severe delays of 79 minutes and delays increasing" due to an obstruction at 4.30pm. Pictures taken at the scene showed long queues on the southbound carriageway. Traffic was released at around 4.50pm, according to LancsLive.
Live traffic monitor INRIX reported: "Very slow traffic due to earlier incident on M6 Southbound at J30 M61. Congestion to Junction 31 (Samlesbury)."
Second obstruction at Junction 32
Congestion continues on the southbound side of the motorway at Junction 32 (M55, Broughton Interchange), which is "partially blocked due to an obstruction in the road." The incident was reported at around 4.15pm. The AA Roadwatch said: "Partially blocked and very slow traffic due to obstruction on the road on M6 Southbound at J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange)."
Knock-on effect on M55
The heavy traffic is having a knock-on effect on the M55, which connects Blackpool with Preston. Delays of seven minutes have been reported on the M55 Eastbound between J2 (A582 Edith Rigby Way, Preston West) and M6 J32 (Broughton Interchange), with average speeds of 10mph.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time or seek alternative routes.
