Motorists have faced hours of disruption on the M6 in Lancashire following a crash that damaged the central reservation. All traffic was initially stopped after the collision before 9am on August 7, between junctions 31 at Samlesbury and 30 for the M61.
Traffic released but delays persist
Traffic was later released, but one lane remains closed in each direction as repairs to the central reservation barrier are carried out. Drivers have experienced long delays throughout the day, with queues building up to nine miles as the morning progressed. Heavy traffic is approaching the scene from both directions.
Impact on surrounding routes
Motorists heading north from Bolton and Manchester are also facing queues on the M61 between Chorley and the M6. Long delays remain on both motorways. Traffic is tailing back to junction 32 at Broughton on the southbound carriageway and junction 28 at Leyland on the northbound side, affecting drivers heading north from Wigan.
