M6 Lorry Crash Causes 12-Hour Closure Near Rugby

A serious collision on the M6 involving a lorry that overturned after hitting the central reservation has led to the motorway being closed for over 12 hours. The incident occurred on Sunday evening on the northbound carriageway between the M1 and J1 near Rugby, affecting both Leicestershire and Warwickshire.

All three northbound lanes were closed, along with both lanes of the entry slip from the M1 North. The southbound entry slip at J1 was also shut. National Highways initially warned the closure could last until Monday afternoon, but by noon all lanes had reopened.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene. Collision investigations began on Sunday evening and were expected to take several hours, followed by recovery, cleanup, and repairs to the road surface and barrier. Drivers were advised to follow diversion routes via the A14 westbound or M1 northbound.
