The M5 motorway near Bristol Airport remains closed in both directions following a police incident, causing severe delays for travellers. National Highways reports delays of up to 65 minutes northbound and 20 minutes southbound, with normal traffic conditions not expected until 11.30pm.
The closure affects the M5 southbound between junctions 18 and 19, and northbound between junctions 21 and 18. Traffic is being turned around southbound, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.
One driver reported being stopped for nearly two hours with no communication. The incident is being led by Avon and Somerset Police, though details have not been released.
Bristol Airport has warned passengers to allow extra time for travel to and from the airport due to the ongoing disruption.
