A van overturned on the M5 northbound this morning, causing significant disruption for motorists. The incident occurred between Junction 6 for Worcester and Junction 5 for Wychbold in the West Midlands, leading to the closure of three of four lanes.
National Highways reported that delays reached up to 90 minutes longer than usual, with queues stretching up to seven miles at their peak. The crash happened at around 6.42am, prompting a response from West Midlands Ambulance Service, which treated a man for potentially serious injuries before taking him to Worcester Royal Hospital.
By 9.34am, all lanes had been reopened, but residual congestion of around four miles continued to cause delays of approximately 25 minutes above normal journey times. National Highways confirmed the scene was clear and traffic was beginning to return to normal.
The overturned van was the only vehicle involved in the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
