Drivers are facing major delays on the M25 motorway this morning after two separate lorry fires forced the closure of a significant stretch of the road. The incidents occurred between junctions 26 and 27 near Epping, Essex, causing traffic chaos during the rush hour.
Details of the Incidents
A spokesperson for National Highways confirmed: 'The M25 has been blocked both ways between J27 (Epping) and J26 (Waltham Abbey) due to a lorry fire. Updates to follow.' In addition, traffic is closed anti-clockwise between J28 and J27 in Essex due to another fire. Essex Police are on the scene alongside National Highways management teams working to ease congestion.
Current Traffic Situation
Drivers are currently facing approximately ten minutes of delays, with around one mile of congestion building up on the road. Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible and to follow diversion routes.
Diversion Route
To bypass the closures, National Highways has issued the following diversion: At J28, exit the M25 onto the A12 eastbound. Continue along the A12 eastbound towards J15, then exit onto the A414 northbound towards Chelmsford. At the Widford roundabout, take the first exit and continue on the A414 westbound to J7 of the M11. Take the first exit onto the M11 southbound at J7, then exit onto the A406 westbound and continue for approximately 6 miles to the junction with the A10. Take the A10 northbound to rejoin the M25 at J25.
