The M25, the UK's busiest motorway, was closed on Saturday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision near Heathrow Airport. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene to assist an injured person.
The closure affected the anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 25 (Waltham Cross) and 23 (Potters Bar), causing a four-mile queue and delays of up to 60 minutes. The clockwise section between junctions 23 and 25 was also temporarily shut but later reopened.
National Highways East confirmed that three lanes were reopened after approximately two hours, with the outside lane remaining closed due to the collision. By 4:24pm, traffic flow had returned to normal, with only minor residual delays.
According to National Highways, the injury sustained in the crash was 'not as serious as initially feared,' based on information from the scene. No further details were provided. Motorists were advised to plan ahead before travelling on the motorway.
This incident follows a recent lorry overturn in Surrey and a separate crash near Heathrow, highlighting ongoing safety concerns on the M25.
