A serious crash on the M11 in Essex has caused major delays near Stansted Airport, with lane closures expected to remain in place for most of the day. National Highways reported that lane 2 of 2 is closed in both directions between Junction 8 for Stansted Airport and Junction 9 for Newmarket following an earlier collision.
Barrier repairs are being carried out at the scene, leading to delays of up to 45 minutes in both directions. The collision was first reported at 8.11am, and traffic congestion has been severe, with around 15 miles of slow or stationary traffic at its peak.
Google Traffic data now indicates that congestion has cleared, but lane closures remain in place for emergency barrier repairs. Drivers are advised to expect continued delays as repairs continue.
National Highways has warned that the lane closures will be in place most of the day, and motorists are urged to plan alternative routes where possible.
