Drivers on the M11 are facing severe disruption and long delays this morning after a crash forced the closure of a lane on the busy motorway.
Chaos on the M11
The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway, leading to one lane being closed between Junction 9 for the A11 at Saffron Walden and Junction 8 for the A120 at Bishops Stortford. The closure was reported in the morning of Monday, November 24, 2025.
National Highways has issued a warning to motorists, stating they should anticipate hour-long delays against the normally expected traffic levels for this time of day. The heavy congestion is also affecting routes leading to Stansted Airport, potentially causing issues for air travellers.
Travel Impact and Advice
The partial blockage has resulted in significant traffic building up on the approach to the affected section. Police were forced to implement the lane closure to deal with the aftermath of the collision.
With one southbound lane currently out of action, the journey for commuters and airport users has been severely impacted. Drivers are strongly advised to allow for extra travel time or to seek alternative routes if possible to avoid the extensive queues.
