A serious crash on the M11 in Essex has caused significant delays near Stansted Airport, with lane closures expected to remain in place for most of the day. National Highways reported that lane two of two is closed in both directions between Junction 8 for Stansted Airport and Junction 9 for Newmarket following an earlier collision.
The collision was first reported at 8:11 am, and barrier repairs are being carried out at the scene. Drivers have faced long delays and heavy congestion in both directions, with delays of up to 45 minutes and approximately 15 miles of slow or stationary traffic reported.
Earlier, delays were around 30 minutes with three miles of congestion on approach. Google Traffic data indicates that the congestion has now cleared, but lane closures remain in place for emergency barrier repairs.
National Highways advised motorists to expect the lane closures to be in place for most of the day, causing ongoing disruptions for travellers heading to and from Stansted Airport.
