A serious multi-vehicle collision on the M11 southbound near Stansted Airport has caused severe delays, with the motorway closed between junctions 9 and 8. National Highways reported 75-minute delays and seven miles of congestion as emergency services responded to the incident.

The crash, which occurred at 12:15pm near the A505 at Duxford, involved one HGV and two vans, according to Cambridgeshire Police. The southbound carriageway is closed between junction 10 (Royston) and junction 9 (Newmarket) and is expected to remain shut for some time.

Police have urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. A diversion is in place, but delays are building, with approximately three miles of congestion reported earlier. National Highways rated the incident as severe, with traffic expected to return to normal between 3.30pm and 3.45pm.
