A multi-vehicle crash on the M1 southbound between junctions 11 and 10 near Luton has caused significant delays, with motorists facing up to 50 minutes of congestion. The incident occurred at approximately 2:45pm on Tuesday, May 10, leading to the closure of three lanes.
National Highways reported around five miles of congestion initially, with delays of up to 50 minutes. Lanes one, two, and three were shut, causing traffic to move much slower than normal. Police are on the scene investigating the circumstances of the collision.
Lane three was reopened at around 3:30pm, but lanes one and two remained closed, leading to delays of 45 minutes above normal travel time and around six miles of congestion. All lanes were reopened just after 4pm, but delays of approximately 40 minutes persist as congestion clears.
The details and cause of the collision have not yet been revealed, and it is not known how many vehicles were involved or whether there have been any serious injuries.
