A serious multi-vehicle collision on the M1 northbound caused significant rush hour delays, with queues stretching for six miles. The incident occurred between junction 28 for Mansfield and junction 29 for Chesterfield, leading to the closure of lanes 3 and 4.
National Highways reported that all lanes have since reopened, but delays of up to 60 minutes above normal travel times persisted as traffic cleared. Motorists were advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
East Midlands bus operator Trentbarton warned of disruptions to its services due to multiple accidents on the M1 between junctions 26 and 29, urging passengers to check live updates before travelling.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix noted that delays were tailing back to junction 27 (Friezeland Interchange). Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene, with firefighters from Chesterfield and Nottinghamshire's Ashfield and Highfields stations in attendance.
