National Highways has warned drivers to expect delays of 70 minutes, with around six miles of congestion building on the approach to the incident.
Drivers urged to allow extra time
Motorists travelling in the area have been urged to allow extra time for their journeys. In a post on X, National Highways said: "Traffic is held on the #M1 northbound between J23 and J23A near #Loughborough due to a multi vehicle collision. There are delays of 70 minutes and approx. 6 miles of congestion on approach to the incident. Allow extra time if you're travelling in the area. Updates to follow."
