Budget rail operator Lumo, part of FirstGroup plc, has launched a new direct rail link between London and Scotland, with tickets starting from £33.10. The inaugural service departed Glasgow Queen Street on Tuesday, arriving at London King's Cross one minute early.
The route connects Glasgow with Falkirk, Edinburgh, the northeast of England, and London. Tickets between London and Glasgow start at £33.10, while journeys between Newcastle and Glasgow are available from £10.90. Two northbound and one southbound service will run each weekday.
Lumo, dubbed the 'Ryanair of trains', aims to make travel more accessible with low fares and high customer satisfaction. The operator expects the service to attract more visitors to Glasgow's Commonwealth Games in July 2026.
Stuart Jones, managing director of First Rail Open Access, called the launch a 'landmark moment' that will boost connectivity and economic growth between Scotland and England. Lumo plans to launch a new route connecting Stirling with London Euston from May 2026, with five trains per day stopping at 10 stations.
