A van driver has been banned from the roads for four years after her vehicle crashed into a layby on the A34, leaving two people with serious injuries. Tracey Hosker, 35, from Windmill Hill, Runcorn, was driving a box van southbound on the A34 near Oxford on 11 January last year when the brakes failed.
Dashcam footage captured the moment the van ploughed into a layby and collided with two parked cars. Both victims sustained serious injuries in the crash, Oxford Crown Court heard. Hosker pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
She received a 22-month suspended sentence, a four-year driving ban, and must complete 10 days of community service. She will also have to pass an extended re-test before driving again.
Thames Valley Police released the video as a warning to drivers and vehicle exporters following a series of roadside stops and convictions involving vehicles heading to Southampton Port. Some vehicles were found to be in dangerous condition, with defects including severely worn tyres, faulty brakes, and corrosion.
Police Sergeant Paul Diamond said: 'Drivers and exporters must understand that exemptions do not mean immunity from road safety laws. The risks posed by these defective vehicles are significant, not just to the drivers themselves, but to everyone sharing the road.'
