A lorry burst into flames following a two-vehicle crash on the A1, sending tyres flying up to 30 feet into the air. The incident occurred between the Thistly Cross roundabout and the Haddington turn-off at around 3.50pm on Wednesday, March 11.
Emergency services attended the scene, and police closed the northbound carriageway, advising drivers to avoid the area. Footage from the scene showed the lorry engulfed in flames with thick black smoke billowing overhead.
Bystander Mark Innes described the terrifying scene: 'It carried forward with the momentum, driving along the motorway and it probably almost instantly burst into flames. It was honestly like something out of a film. It's good that everyone is okay.'
Innes added that the driver had already escaped the vehicle by the time he arrived, though he was 'very shaken and panicked.' He also noted that tyres were exploding and flying into nearby bushes, setting them alight.
Police Scotland confirmed the road closure and urged motorists to find alternative routes. It remains unclear if anyone was injured in the crash.
